The homeowners
hired our in-house designer to convert a small, dark kitchen with
little countertop and storage space into a more modern, brighter
room suitable for entertaining and functional for everyday use.
Updated electrical and plumbing systems give modern convenience
to the classic home. The dining room area was opened up with a structural
curved archway over a peninsula (replacing a wall and doorway),
connecting the kitchen to the dining room. The existing hardwood
floors in the kitchen were extensively repaired with salvaged wood
and stained to match the age of the home. An existing adjacent mudroom
gained pantry storage, new granite slab countertops, cherry cabinets,
and updated lighting complete the new kitchen. Additional work done:
modify existing carport to accept a power garage door, exterior
tuck pointing, and the exterior deck was rebuilt with a waterproof
membrane surface.
